Is it Cheaper to Rent Movies Online As Opposed to in Store? by J Pal

There are many benefits if you rent movies online rather than in store, one of the most attractive being the cost savings. There are also no late fees, you can keep the movie as long as you like. If you are an avid movie watcher, the savings can be quite appealing.

What could it cost you? For example, if you chose a plan that costs $16.99 which allows you to rent 3 movies at a time then you can rent as many movies as you like per month as long as it’s no more than 3 at a time.

So if you were to rent and return 3 at a time throughout the month consistently, on average you could rent 6 movies per week or 24 per month! If you did the same in store, it would cost $96.

Normally, you will find rentals plans that allow you to rent 1, 2 or 3 movies at a time. The prices are good as these companies are very competitive.

What are the fixed charges? Netflix charge $8.99, $13.99 and $16.99 to charge 1, 2 or 3 movies per month. Blockbuster charge $8.99, $13.99 and $16.99 for the same plans as Netflix. Blockbuster also offer other membership options to rent and return in store too.

You may alse have to pay extra to watch movies on Blu Ray or instantly. If you want to watch movies instantly on your PC, TV, PS3 or Xbox without having to wait for them to be delivered you can. You will need to buy a converter type device that allows this. And it may also cost you more to get this option. This cost varies by company.

What else can you save? If you rent movies online there also no late fees or shipping costs and you can keep the movies as long as you like. You just need to return the movies (depending on the rental plan you are on) to get the next one on your list. New releases also cost more in store to rent and this is something that doesn’t apply if you rent movies online. Some companies don’t charge you extra for DVDs in Blu Ray format.

Another less obvious cost advantage when you rent movies online as opposed to in store is the saving on travel costs if the store is located some distance from you.

You can also save time. For example, to find movies online is a lot quicker than in store. You can search by actor, title genre and also apply many other filters to narrow your search. You can also save your preferred titles to your favorites list for easy reference later.

A very British story and a very British film, Made In Dagenham recreates some of the real-life events surrounding the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham assembly plant.
